The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs has implemented a Winter Termination Program to prevent service discontinuation for eligible residential customers receiving residential electric, sewer, and water from a local authority, municipal utility, or rural electric cooperative from November 15th through March 15th. The Tennis Courts at Pitney Park are reopening earlier than expected, following the completion of renovations ahead of schedule. The courts will be available for use starting Friday, October 25th.

Join us on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 for Absecon 9-11 ceremonies.

The first ceremony will begin at 9:30 am and is being held especially for our Absecon school children. All community members are welcome to attend. 

The second ceremony will begin at 6:30 pm for the entire Absecon community and beyond. Although there are a few benches, everyone is encouraged to bring their own chair.

It is anticipated that both ceremonies will be less than an hour.

Mays Landing, N.J. (August 29, 2024) – Summer heat continues impacting the region, with the state on track for potentially the warmest summer to date. Atlantic City Electric understands the extreme summer heat, combined with changes in rates and cost of energy, have led to fluctuations in customers’ recent energy bills.

New Jersey experienced the second hottest June on record, with a nearly eight percent temperature increase from June 2023 to June 2024. July was the seventh hottest month on record. It was also determined that residential usage in Atlantic City Electric’s service area for June and July increased 20 percent compared to last year.

Recent studies have revealed that New Jersey residents are using energy more than ever before, causing equipment to work harder. This increased energy demand, coupled with inflation and extreme weather, are contributing factors affecting energy bills.

Customers have also experienced a 20 percent overall rate increase during the last year due to several different factors including supply, distribution and seasonal rate increases.

The supply rate is the cost of the electricity a customer uses, and that rate changes based on purchase cost of electric. It is a pass-through cost that the company does not profit from. Customers can use a third-party energy provider for the supply portion of their bill. The distribution rate allows the company to continue investing in reliability upgrades to better serve customers. Distribution rates also address severe storm damage and help us invest in making the grid more resilient against future storms.

We recognize our customers’ concerns and the economic challenges so many are facing right now. Atlantic City Electric wants to make certain customers not only understand their bills, but also the resources available to lower energy usage and save money. We will continue to work with local officials to ensure we are meeting the energy needs of our customers and to understand the factors contributing to rising energy costs.

Each year, summer has the highest rate of reported underground utility damages. Every few minutes an underground utility line is damaged because someone neglected to contact 811 before digging, which can lead to expensive repair costs, fines, inconvenient outages, injury and even death. 8/11 Day serves as a timely reminder that contacting 811 is a necessary first step to safety for homeowners and professionals when digging, regardless of the size and scope of the project.

Weather permitting, the Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control plans to treat parts of Absecon, Linwood and Somers Point, as part of its ongoing effort to control adult mosquitoes.

The area to be treated in Absecon is bounded by Pine St., Shady Ln., N. Shore Rd., W. Church St. and Pitney Rd.

Spraying to reduce adult mosquitoes using ground application equipment will take place on Friday morning, August 30th, between 4:00 am and 6:30 am. Ground spraying will be done using Zenivex E4 RTU, the trade name for etofenprox, applied as an ultra low volume aerosol.

The EPA does not require relocating or taking special precautions during mosquito control spraying, but people may choose to avoid or minimize exposure by:

• Staying indoors during application to their immediate area
• Keeping windows shut, window fans and air conditioners off (or set to circulate indoor air) during spraying
• Keeping children’s toys indoors
• Keeping pets indoors, as well as their food, water dishes and toys.

The 2024 Final/2025 Preliminary Tax Bills (yellow this year) have been mailed! Please keep an eye out for them in your mail box over the next few days. The grace period for the August 1st payment has been extended to Monday, August 12th. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:4-66 et seq., the payment for the 3rd quarter 2024 installment must be received by August 12, 2024, after which time all receipts shall be deemed delinquent, with interest accruing from August 1st, 2024.
