Fallen Officers
Special Officer Alex Schromsky
End of Watch: September 2, 1956
Special Officer Alex Schromsky was struck and killed by a drunk driver while conducting a traffic stop on North Shore Road, near East Wyoming Avenue with another officer at approximately 4:45 AM.
As he spoke to the driver, a vehicle driving in the opposite direction crossed the center line and struck Officer Schromsky. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
The driver who struck him was convicted of reckless killing by auto.
Officer Schromsky was a military veteran and had served with the Absecon Police Department for two years. He also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Absecon Fire Department.
Youth Protection Program
Per City of Absecon Ordinance 04-2025 anyone interested in coaching or assisting with youth programs must be fingerprinted and undergo a background check. A copy of the full ordinance can be found below.
An ID badge must be worn by approved coaches at all times while on the field of play - no exceptions.
The application below is required to be completed for ALL new applicants and for renewals. For new applicants see the steps for the background check/fingerprinting process below.
Renewals will be required every three (3) years, and are subject to an updated background check procedure completed in lieu of having finger prints repeated.
Once the application is completed please return it to Mary Fetske in Police Records at Absecon City Hall during normal business hours Monday to Friday 8:30AM - 4:30PM. You will be notified once the background check has been approved and the ID card is ready for pickup.

Municipal Court
Hours of Municipal Court are 8:30 Am to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Court is scheduled on Mondays at 5 PM. The Municipal Court is a local court created by State law. Practice and procedures are governed by New Jersey Court Rules. The Municipal Court Judge is responsible for overseeing the administration of the Municipal Court.

Cases heard in Municipal Court are divided into four general categories:
- Violations of Motor Vehicle and traffic laws.
- Violations of disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses.
- Violations of Fish and Game laws, Parks and Forests, Weights and Measures, SPCA and Boating regulations.
- Violations of Municipal Ordinances (local laws).
More serious offenses, known as indictable offenses, are arraigned in Municipal Court but then sent to the County Prosecutor’s Office.
Each municipality appoints its own Municipal Court Judge. An Informational Guide is available in the office.
