Absecon boasts a multitude of recreational facilities and activities for residents and visitors alike. Patrons will find paths for biking and walking, playgrounds, a boat ramp, and a myriad of athletic fields. Absecon is also home to the one and only South Jersey Field of Dreams, located within the Dr. Jonathan Pitney Recreation Park.

Throughout the year we host an abundance of community events like our Concerts in the Park series held in Heritage Park.

To help honor our proud patriotic heritage, the city offers a Veteran's Park and a 9/11 Memorial. A steel beam from the World Trade Center is a focal part of the memorial located in Heritage Park.

The primary concern for residents of Absecon are the natural hazards such as coastal flooding; tropical cyclones; and short-termed fast moving thunderstorms. Additionally, we meet and discuss man made incidents such as airplane accidents; school concerns; potential transportation accidents on our highways and power outages.

Absecon Emergency Management personnel work closely with police; fire; emergency medical services; and public works to prepare for and respond to all sorts of potential incidents/disasters that may keep you from carrying out your daily routines.

We are not alone. We work closely with our township and city partners, and on occasion reach out the the Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management and also to the State Office of Emergency Management under the direction of the New Jersey State Police.

Together our mission is to protect the citizenry of the City if Absecon under the Leadership of Mayor Kimberly Horton.

We thank you very much for your continued patience while first responders address concerns daily dealing with the COVID-19 virus and sincerely hope you continue to be safe and healthy. It has been over a a year (March 8, 2020) since the first call to action was sounded to prepare for and protect Absecon.

Bicyclists, runners, and walkers alike can enjoy this shaded one-mile path that stretches from Morton Avenue to Pitney Road.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention is responsible for a multitude of inspections and services to the public, including the inspection of every business, warehouse, institution, and school facility on an annual basis to ensure they are not in violation of the Uniform Fire Code of the State of New Jersey. Fire Marshals also inspect new businesses during the Occupancy for Use application process in conjunction with the Zoning Officer. Additionally, in the month of October, Fire Marshals are tasked with promoting fire safety by making visits to the public elementary schools as well as the majority of the preschool and daycare facilities in the township. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is also responsible for handling all complaints that appear to violate the Uniform Fire Code for the State of New Jersey. The Bureau also performs Origin and Cause investigations for all fires within the city.

What is Stormwater?

Human activity is largely responsible for the stormwater pollution. Everything that we put on the ground or into the storm drain can end up in our water. Each of us has a responsibility to make sure these contaminants stay out of our water. Whether we have clean water is up to you.

The official definition of stormwater under the N.J.A.C. 7:14A rules is as follows:

'Stormwater' means water resulting from precipitation (including rain and snow) that runs off the land's surface, is transmitted to the subsurface, or is captured by separate storm sewers or other sewage or drainage facilities, or conveyed by snow removal equipment.

Trash and Recycling collection services for the City of Absecon are provided by the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA).

The City of Absecon has provided residents with one trash and one recycling container. The containers must be used for trash and recycling as required by city code and ACUA guidelines. If additional trash or recycling containers are needed, they can be purchased by calling the recycling coordinator at (609) 641-0663 ext. 105.

Trash, recycling, yard waste containers shall be stored on the side or rear of the premises, except for corner properties, which shall be stored behind the rear building line opposite the principle front yard.

	Container Guidelines Items must be out before 7:00 AM on the day of pick up. Containers, when full, may not weigh more than 50 lbs. Containers weighing more than 50 lbs. will not be emptied. Carts are dumped using a hydraulic tipper and do not require the same weight restrictions. ACUA will no longer empty drums and barrels of any size for recycling, trash, or yard waste. Most Atlantic County residents are eligible to receive one 20-gallon recycling bucket per year at no cost. If using a non-ACUA recycling container, please ensure it is clearly marked for recycling.
