The Band is Back!!!!  

On Sunday, August 29th at 4:00pm, South Jersey’s Band for 25 years, and a recently named finalist for the “American Prize” in the Community Band Division, The South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble, will close out the summer season in Absecon, NJ at Heritage Park. A program of Americana, patriotic, Broadway and jazz music will fill the air celebrating the return of live music and making music together! Don’t miss it!! Bring your lawn chair, your family, your neighbors, and friends!

The South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble is a community concert band that rehearses and performs a wide variety of music for the modern wind band. Keith W. Hodgson, has been the Conductor/ Artistic Director since the ensemble’s inception in 1997. Associate SJAWE Absecon ConcertDirector, Ron Poorman, Assistant Director, Jennifer Hodgson, as well as the Board of Directors led by President, Karen Poorman help lead the organization to new and innovative experiences each year for our members and audiences.

The SJAWE performs 5-6 concerts annually, collaborates with guest conductors and soloists annually and has a long history of commissioning, recording, partnering with community organizations and performing at conventions. Among the performance highlights include the 2019 & 2014 National Conventions of the Association of Concert Bands as well as the Kennedy Center’s Sousa Band Festival (2017). The SJAWE was the recipient of the 2006 Sudler Silver Scroll Award from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Learn more about the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble by visiting our website. 2021 Road Program

The 2021 Road Program is expected to begin the week of June 28th and will include the following road projects:

  • Coolidge Avenue from Austin Avenue to Bayview Drive (0.19 mi)
  • Creek Court from Fourth Avenue to end of cul-de-sac (0.12 mi)
  • W. Faunce Landing Road from Pitney Road to Shore Road (0.22 mi)
  • Hobart Avenue from Pitney Road to Irelan Avenue (0.20 mi)
  • Lazy Lane from Sooy's Lane to Hay Road (0.11 mi)
  • Sooy's Lane from mid-block of one-way section to Fourth Avenue (0.25 mi)
  • Woodcrest Avenue from Pitney Road to New York Avenue (0.17 mi)
  • American Legion Post 28 driveway improvements
  • Davis Avenue & Hobart Avenue drainage improvements (Phase 1)
  • Pitney Road sidewalk improvements (Phase 2)

Cannabis Class Locations

On June 17, 2021, the City Council released a map showing the proposed areas within the City of Absecon where specific types of licensed cannabis establishments would be permitted to operate. Three ordinances were introduced that amend zoning to establish these areas.

Memorial Day Parade

image001Absecon’s Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 31st, starting at 9:00 AM. The parade begins at the American Legion Hall at the corner of Mill Road and New Jersey Avenue, runs down New Jersey Avenue, and concludes at the Veteran’s Park. A Memorial Day program will be held at the park following the parade. We ask that the public maintain safe social distancing during the ceremony. Attendees are welcome to return to the American Legion Hall for refreshments following the program.

The parade will be led by our Grand Marshal Bob Adamo, and will feature the Oakcrest High School Marching Band. Prior to the parade, there will be a Children's Patriotic Bicycle Brigade at 8:15 AM.

Absecon wishes to thank the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice and holds this Memorial Day event annually to honor our nation’s heroes.
